Module 2: Decision-Making Points During Treatment Planning and Organization

January 30, 2026

Duration: 3 hours
Fee: $89

Hours: 10 am to 1 pm ET

This module delves into the complex architecture of treatment planning within EMDR therapy for children and adolescents, emphasizing the interplay between individual, systemic, and developmental variables. Clinicians will be guided through a comprehensive exploration of how to construct and sequence treatment plans that are both developmentally sensitive and contextually responsive.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Differentiation and prioritization of treatment goals: intrapersonal (e.g., symptom reduction, trauma resolution), interpersonal (e.g., attachment repair), and systemic (e.g., improved family functioning, relational recalibration)
  • Use of developmental rhythms as a compass for trauma exploration, ensuring that the therapeutic trajectory is both titrated and coherent across sessions
  • Principles and methodologies for identifying EMDR targets in a developmentally grounded, systemically informed, and phase-specific manner

In addition, this module will provide an in-depth framework for the organization of the Eight Phases of EMDR therapy when working with youth, including:

  • Determining treatment delivery format: low vs. high intensity (e.g., individual vs. family or group-based, or hybrid approaches)
  • Guidelines for presenting treatment plans to the client and relevant stakeholders (e.g., caregivers, case managers, legal representatives), including how to navigate discrepancies in goals or expectations across parties
  • Criteria for the integration of adjunctive therapeutic modalities (e.g., play therapy, somatosensory interventions, systemic work) into the EMDR framework—understanding when, why, and how such methods enhance or support the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model

By the end of this module, participants will be equipped to construct nuanced and robust treatment plans that align with the complexities of developmental trauma, attachment disruption, and systemic influence—while maintaining fidelity to the EMDR therapy model.
